A jury award in the case of Sajib vs. Global Aviation Services, with Mark Pierce as lead trial counsel, has been recognized as the largest aviation verdict in Texas in 2016 by Texas Lawyer and TopVerdict.com.
The Houston, Texas jury learned that Global Aviation Services, Inc. failed to properly inspect and repair a Twin Commander aircraft with a known history of loss of engine power, causing pilot trainee Rupom Sajib to sustain severe injuries when the pilot in command was forced to crash-land. Global was fully aware of the aircraft’s engine problems, but returned it to service and represented it was airworthy. Attorney Mark Pierce said after the trial, “The jury learned about and understood the challenge the pilots faced in losing an engine immediately after takeoff in a twin-engine airplane, and they recognized the life-changing consequences of the crash.”
The Texas Supreme Court, in the case of Daniel Nghiem v. Global Aviation Services, ruled in 2019 that the owner of the airplane involved in the crash timely filed his claim for recovery of the value of his crashed aircraft. The owner’s case for the damage to the airplane is expected to go to trial in 2019.
Mark Pierce is a Texas-based aviation attorney with a track record of multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements in cases involving airplane and helicopter crashes.
